Design-Build Risk and Insurance; CRIS Recertification

For immediate release

As a dedicated construction attorney who litigates coverage disputes and other cases overlaid by contractual risk transfer and insurance issues, I am very pleased to announce that I have just completed the International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI) course in Design-Build Risk and Insurance.

Design-build construction is a project delivery method where one firm oversees an entire project from design through finished construction.  While design-build can offer savings, superior quality and faster project delivery, it presents new risk management challenges which the IRMI course addresses in useful detail.  As a litigator I understand that when  disputes arise in design-build, the identification of insurance coverage can streamline the path to an amicable resolution, insulate the responsible party from ruinous liability, and offer the injured party a fund for recovery.

After studying and passing the test for Design-Build Risk and Insurance, I was recertified as a Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) through August of 2021.  The CRIS insurance designation recognizes specialized expertise in construction insurance, and demonstrates one’s commitment to the construction industry through an ongoing continuing education component focusing on construction risk and insurance.  The core curriculum for the CRIS program consists of the five courses listed below:

  • Commercial Auto, Surety, CIPs, and Miscellaneous Lines
  • Commercial Liability Insurance for Contractors
  • Contractual Risk Transfer in Construction
  • Property Insurance for Contractors
  • Workers Compensation for Contractors

To which I now add, Design-Build Risk and Insurance.  Much more than by the credential, I am proud to have renewed and increased the capacity of my law firm to address and handle the challenges faced by our clients in this essential part of their business.
